Biodata of Javier Valenzuela

Javier Valenzuela Manzanares (PhD in English Philology) is a professor in the Department of English Philology at the University of Murcia, where he teaches Semantics and Cognitive Linguistics and leads the research group “Language, Cognition, and Translation.” His research focuses on empirical validations of cognitive linguistics, primarily using psycholinguistic and corpus methods. He is particularly interested in the sensorimotor basis of abstract thought and the multimodal aspects of communication. As a member of the Red Hen Lab, an international consortium dedicated to the study of multimodal communication, he is involved in the development of the theory known as Multimodal Construction Grammar.

He has extensively published in journals such as Cognitive Science, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, Language and Cognition, Frontiers in Psychology, Journal of Pragmatics, Cognitive Linguistics, Language Sciences, Semiotica, Metaphor and Symbol, PLOS ONE, and Review of Cognitive Linguistics. He has co-edited various volumes on cognitive linguistics. He is the author of the book “Lenguaje y Cognición” (2022, Editorial Síntesis), co-authored with Iraide Ibarretxe-Antuñano, and “Meaning in English” (2017, Cambridge University Press). Additionally, he has participated in various multidisciplinary research projects on semantics, cognition, robotic communication, metaphor, and emotion.
