Sus \u00e1reas de investigaci\u00f3n incluyen (a) la adquisici\u00f3n de segundas lenguas con instrucci\u00f3n, con especial atenci\u00f3n al procesamiento del input de L2 y al papel de la instrucci\u00f3n formal en el aprendizaje de L2 por parte de adultos; (b) la investigaci\u00f3n de la adquisici\u00f3n de segundas lenguas desde la perspectiva de la ling\u00fc\u00edstica cognitiva\/basada en el uso, con especial atenci\u00f3n al aprendizaje de L2 como proceso de aprender a repensar para hablar y al proceso de construcci\u00f3n de un sistema de L2; y (c) la adquisici\u00f3n de segundas lenguas por parte de ni\u00f1os, con especial atenci\u00f3n al papel de la edad inicial y a una serie de factores internos y externos en el desarrollo del ingl\u00e9s como L2. Sus trabajos han aparecido en revistas de gran prestigio como <em>Language Learning<\/em>, <em>Applied Linguistics<\/em>, <em>Studies in<\/em> <em>Second Language Acquisition<\/em>, <em>The Modern Language Journal<\/em>, <em>Bilingualism: Language and Cognition,<\/em> y <em>Frontiers in Psychology<\/em>. Ha coeditado tres vol\u00famenes en el \u00e1rea de la ling\u00fc\u00edstica cognitiva aplicada: <em>Linguistic Relativity in SLA: Thinking for Speaking<\/em> (2010, Multilingual Matters), <em>Usage-Based Perspectives on Second Language Learning <\/em>(2016, Mouton de Gruyter) y <em>Ling\u00fc\u00edstica cognitiva y espa\u00f1ol <\/em>LE\/L2 (2019, Routledge), al que AESLA concedi\u00f3 el XXIII premio de investigaci\u00f3n Rafael Monroy. En 1996 recibi\u00f3 el Premio ACTFL &#8211; MLJ Paul Pimsleur de investigaci\u00f3n en Ense\u00f1anza de lenguas extranjeras.
