[ Second call for proposals ]

The 13th International Conference of the Spanish Association of Cognitive Linguistics (SCOLA) will be held in Granada (Spain), 25th-27th September 2024, with the topic New New challenges in Cognitive Linguistics. Conceptual, methodological and interdisciplinary steps forward

We are pleased to announce the extension of the deadline for submission of both paper and poster proposals to 7th March  2024. Papers and posters may address any topic within the field of Cognitive Linguistics, including, but not limited to:

  • Cognitive Grammar
  • Construction Grammar
  • Cognitive Linguistics applied to language acquisition/learning and teaching
  • Contrastive Cognitive Linguistics
  • Cognitive Linguistics and Artificial Inteligence
  • Cognitive Linguistics and Discourse Analysis
  • Cognitive Linguistics and Multimodal Communication
  • Cognitive Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics
  • Cognitive Linguistics and Translation Theory
  • Conceptual Metaphor and Metonymy
  • Cognitive Pragmatics
  • Linguistic variation and change

Instructions

Proposals for papers and posters should be submitted by using this form.

When submitting the proposal, please state if it is a paper for one of the thematic sessions approved for the conference or if, on the contrary, it is a paper or poster for the general session.

When sending the paper or poster proposal, all the data required in the submission form must be provided (title of the proposal, name of the author(s), contact details of author(s), affiliation, e-mail) and two documents generated with the template provided must be uploaded. First, the proposal in Word format in which all the information is included. Second, the proposal in PDF format completely anonymized (indicating only Author 1, Author 2, Author 3, etc.).

Specific instructions on the format (sections, word count, format of reference list, etc.) of the proposal can be found in the template available in the submission form.  

The official languages of the conference are Spanish and English, so proposals can be submitted in either language.

The sessions will last 30 minutes, divided as follows: 20 minutes for the presentation, 5 minutes for Q&A, and 5 minutes for change of room.

Each participant in the conference can submit a maximum of 2 proposals (one as a single author and one as co-author; or two proposals, both as co-author).

The deadline for submission of paper or poster proposals is 7th March, 2024, inclusive.

Proposals will be reviewed anonymously by members of the Scientific Committee according to the following criteria:originality, relevance, scientific rigor, references, content clarity and linguistic accuracy. Acceptance of paper and poster proposals will be notified by 15th April, 2024, inclusive.

SCOLA 2024 Awards

Award for Best Predoctoral Oral Presentation SCOLA 2024

The Spanish Association of Cognitive Linguistics awards a prize for the best oral presentation given at the SCOLA 2024 Conference by PhD students. 
The prize includes:

  • Prize certificate.
  • Refund of the conference registration fees and the conference dinner fees.
  • Possible prioritized publication of the written version in English, as a paper, of the oral presentation in Review of Cognitive Linguistics (https://benjamins.com/catalog/rcl). Additionally, prior to submission to the journal for review and eventual publication, the article will be supervised by an expert who will mentor the author through a pre-review process.

The second and third best presentations will be also issued a certificate.
To be eligible for the Best Predoctoral Oral Presentation Award, the applicant must:

  • To state, when registering, his/her wish to be considered as a candidate for this award and attach proof of his/her status as a predoctoral student, as instructed on the registration form.

  • To send a brief CV (see provided template) and oral presentation materials (slide presentation or similar) to aelco@ugr.es by 16th September 2024.

Award for Best Poster Presentation SCOLA 2024

The organizing committee encourages the presentation of research output in poster format, since this provides the opportunity to reach, during a session exclusively dedicated to poster exhibition, a larger audience as compared to conventional presentations. It also allows you to be a candidate for the Best Poster Presentation awarded by the Spanish Association of Cognitive Linguistics, which includes:

  • Prize certificate.
  • Refund of the conference registration fees.

The second and third best posters will will be also issued a certificate.

To be eligible for the Best Poster Presentation Award, the applicant must:

  • To state, when registering his/her wish to be considered as a candidate for this award, as instructed on the registration form.
